TRUTH: On Being A 2016 XXL Freshman:

“When I got the call that I was a Freshman, I was like, Aye, it’s about to go down, put me on the map, let them niggas know I’m here, let everybody know. My manager told
me. She was like, ‘You’re a Freshman.’ I was like,
‘It’s game time.’”

That just made me want to go in the studio and do more. It feels like it’s time. To say that I’m a Freshman, it feels like I’m growing and it’s time to keep it going. I got to keep it going and just keep being on the grind.

My family been like, ‘Hey, you did it.’ My mom is happy, she smiles every time she sees me. There’s always been a smile but it’s more like, ‘My son, I knew you could do it.’ It’s been good vibes in my family. My pops, my sister, I always got them with me. It’s great right now. I be geekin’ out and all that. Inside I be ready to scream like a muthafucka, you feel me? I just embrace the moment, take it in, get ready to grind and stay humble.

I try to motivate people and spread the word, ‘You can do this, there is a way. Don’t think I got this ice on my wrist, you can’t have this ice on your wrist either. Do your thing. Keep grindin’ if you believe that you can do something. Don’t ever doubt your dream. Keep going, man, keep grinding and may God be with you.

“Panda” going No. 1, is a blessing. I knew it was going to get there now it’s time to put down more music and deliver for the fans, just give them more. I don’t make music for the time. I make music for the century so I knew it [Panda] was going to go. Kanye West and Pusha T, they go crazy all the time. They tell me, ‘Keep doing your thing. You know G.O.O.D. Music got this. You got a number No. 1.’ There’s just good vibes with them all the time when I talk to them about working and my career.

I’m more into business now, just on a lot of things. I got a financial advisor that I’m talking to. It’s just a lot of things are coming into thought right now and are in the process so it’s going to be coming up. You got to go get money and keep on flippin’ it.

I see myself better and on a higher platform, better than the hallways and the corners. I see myself being in the White House with gold bottles. I had to keep that mind state when I’m doing my thing to change the world, for real. The long goal is to keep delivering this music. Me and God keep blessing y’all with this art. I just got to put out more art. I will never put out trash music. Me and God will work. I work hard and will make sure it’s great for the ear.

Nobody got the style like me, nobody got the fun like me, that walk like me, that talk like me. Them two I’s in my name and that swag I got. [But] I’m going to stay on the hungry tip, this is what I do for life. I never had a job, I’ve never seen myself in a building with a boss. I’ve always seen myself as my own boss, doing my thing, being free, doing my music, being me.” - Emmanuel C.M.
